It’s all very well for Pat Lightfoot to tell us that she can recognise dangerous, mentally, materially and sexually threatening women. To put it in her own words, “I can spot one a mile off”. But what about all of those male readers of the Independent who are easily influenced, value their material possessions and have no desire for any sexual contact with a stranger. How do we recognise these dangerous females? Do they “hunt” alone, in pairs or evens packs?
If you don’t see them until they’re right up close, should you turn and run, stare them down or avert your gaze? (My neighbour, who is looking over my shoulder as I type, says, “surrender and give them what they want”.
Perhaps we who live on the coast are worrying for nothing. They might only live in the “Yowie” country of the New England. They could well be the female of the species.
Now that I’ve thought it through, I don’t feel anywhere near as scared.
