Recently I was in Port to visit friends, enjoy the area and to take photos of the Pioneer Walk where an ancestor’s name appears.
I was dismayed to see a ramp that had been built into the “Food for Less” building desecrates the memory of those who helped build this city. Some names have actually been concreted over partially obliterating them.
Now that the business has gone from the building I exhort Council to take into consideration the memorial to our pioneers when approving any future use of the site and to ensure the names of those there are restored to the level of ongoing recognition they truly deserve.
