Australia needs a price on pollution, and Rob Oakeshott is acting in the best interests of Port Macquarie residents by supporting one.
We cannot let climate change ravage Australia – it will be devastating to our industry, agriculture, tourism and natural wonders like Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef. Somebody has to pay so that we can solve the climate crisis – will it be the Australian people, or will it be the polluters who are causing the problem? It makes sense that polluters pay for the pollution they emit. Putting a price on pollution will create a financial incentive for industry to reduce emissions and we can also use the money to create a better future for Australia. The proposed legislation includes more than ten billion dollars to spark a clean energy revolution in this country – already the renewable energy industry directly employs as many Australians as the coal industry.
Pricing pollution is the favoured method of reducing emissions and helping solve climate change across the world.
We cannot let the rest of the world leave Australia behind with new industries, while we struggle with dated technology. We cannot prosper in the 21st century with a 20th century economy.
Putting a price on pollution is the smartest, most efficient way to ensure a safe climate future for Australia – I urge all Hastings residents to support Mr Oakeshott in creating a cleaner, better future for all.
