With a grateful heart I’m writing to you to thank you for your willingness to promote our fundraising variety concert that we held last Sunday. We raised $4488, which will go toward the re-building of the Batuna Clinic in the Solomon Islands. Some businesses and institutions like “MULTINAIL”, “Port Macquarie Private Hospital”, “Garden Village” and “Area Health” had previously already donated goods for this purpose, and so this money will be a boost to the funds needed to complete this project. We showed your logo on the computer screen as one of our sponsors in appreciation for printing the advertising article.
I’d appreciate it if you could thank the people of Port Macquarie and the above-mentioned business and institutions for their support of this worthy project. We live in a country where medical help is readily available and where the conditions are clean and inviting; yet in countries like the Solomon Islands, medical help is often not available or very hard to come by, or the conditions are appalling due to lack of finances and staff.
The concert was a huge success, with the “Blue Hypothesis Big Band” kicking it off with lively brass band music and “Rhythm Revue Dance Co” brightening this occasion with their colourful costumes and skilful dances. Liz and Rohan Cains’ beautiful singing brought a romantic mood to the concert, their daughter Cassandra performed a graceful ballet dance, and their younger daughter Anneliese exhibited her skill by singing the delightful song “I’ve Got No Strings”. Jan Roth and Yvonne Howard brought humour to the concert as they performed a comedy song, Bessie Jennings recited a yarn about her early married life in adept poetry, and Beate’s flute solo “The Rose” was a song for the heart. Dr David Malikoff dedicated his poetry to his mother-in-law as she had just lost her sister, and his skill as MC was simply extraordinary – he was a true MASTER of ceremony. Bob and Elaine Donaldson did an excellent job reminiscing about their years working at the Batuna Clinic in the 1960s; and the “Sing Australia Choir” finished the first half of the program with a selection of their various songs, and they finished the second half with a sing-along which was well received. It was a wonderful variety concert that suited and delighted all tastes, and Norma Cowper’s and Beate Karbstein’s efforts in organising this concert were rewarded beyond expectation.
“ORDINARY PEOPLE AUSTRALIA” do a wonderful job in helping those in need, and we wanted to do our part in helping them helping others – and you helped us in helping them helping others.
Thank you once again.
Beate Karbstein
