I’m flabbergasted by the amount of deeply religious people who send in their letters to the Free Times. While I’m not overly religious, I do have my beliefs. That being said, I do not allow them to cloud the current political, economic and social problems of our country.
However, it would appear that a lot of people in the Southern Downs region are doing this. Their opinions are being scoffed at because of their misplaced and entirely incongruous biblical references. To put it simply, their biblical quotes are not in harmony with their arguments. I understand that these readers may want to back up their opinions by citing scripture (which is acceptable), however before deciding to send their letters in, I urge these people to consider if it’s in the right context for their argument.
While it’s not my intention to offend the devout Christian readers of the Free Times, their religious audacity could be toned down, or at least moderately lightened. Perhaps these readers are just so passionate about their attitudes that they don’t realise how they’ve exaggerated and exacerbated their original sentiments. If that’s the case, then before clicking ‘send’ to the editor, just take a break and make a cup of tea, read your message again and please, for the love of God, dial back your unreasonably and excessively religious tones.
