Those people who attended protest meetings, at Stanthorpe, prior to amalgamation, will remember those fighting words from MLA Lawrence Springborg, now the Health Minister. When he uttered his “fierce” opposition to amalgamation, he was on the opposition benches, and promised, when elected to power, to give us a choice.
Well, where is he now? He’s somewhere in the bowels of the Queensland health system.
After setting the criteria for de-amalgamation, the Local Government Minister stops the procedure in mid-stream, causing pain to those who worked so hard on the petitions.
Why is Mr Springborg, being so fearful in offering his support for de-amalgamation by Stanthorpe and other shires?
The LNP is using, “It’s going to saddle the ratepayers with too much debt,” as its argument. Well, the way we’re going with council debt; the rate payers are being saddled, flogged, spurred and ridden into the ground.
Nothing will change unless the people rise up and say: “We’ve had enough of party political dictatorial madness that is allowing BIG banker’s debt (figures in computers) to ruin our great state of Queensland, and a country called Australia.
It’s enough to make all ratepayers sick!
