I refer to the recently reported Wine scam that affected Cassegrain Wines, and over 40 other Australian wine producers. I am very pleased to report that Cassegrain Wines has recovered all its wine that was involved in the fraudulent scam. I also understand that most wineries have recovered all, or at least most, of their wine.
While we have suffered significant cost, including the need to sell the wine a second time (it is difficult selling it once, let alone needing to sell it twice!), the outcome for us could have been much worse.
I would particularly like to pay tribute to our Police force, and in particular the Fairfield branch. They worked around the clock to find and recover the wine, and I believe had they not acted with such a sense of urgency, most, if not all the wine may not have been recovered. It is so refreshing to see people who go beyond the call of duty when it is required to get a positive outcome, which I believe I witnessed with the Fairfield police.
I now hope they are just as successful at bringing the culprits to justice.
