The mention in despatches of my name by your correspondents, Stan Percy (Letters, Independent 31/3), I shall take this as a compliment
from him.
In his resolute attempt to authenticate the “truth” (his word) about “climate science” and global warming, he mentions the work of the climate scientists working with the UN and NASA. And our own BOM (Bureau of Meteorology).
However, he neglected to mention the work of the University of East Anglia in the UK, which is regarded as one of the world’s leading centres in the study of “climate science”.
Oh, then again, my Aunt Sophie just reminded me about the “Climategate” scandal involving this university just prior to Copenhagen (Nov 2009). Results of a judicial injury into this scandal, revealed that staff – including the Director — of this reputable institution, has sent thousands of emails to colleagues in the UK and the US, which openly discussed ways in which they could “downplay” any of their research findings which did not fit within their own “framework” of global warming.
So I ask Mr Percy, if the science (“truth”) supporting global warming, carbon tax and the ETS etc is strong, why did the scientists from this leading centre for climate research, resort to this deceptive and fraudulent behaviour?
Meanwhile, one can only wonder how many other similar institutions around the world were “infected” with what I call this “cheaters influential!” With a “ripple” effect, it could easily have reached endemic proportions – perhaps even as far as the UN scientists as well as NASA!
And as far as our BOM is concerned, they have been known to have been wrong before. My game of bowls was rained off one afternoon recently, but the BOM computer model the night before indicated it wouldn’t rain. So if their computer models can’t get it right within a time span of 24 hours, how can they possibly hope to predict our climate and temperature etc for fifty or one hundred years down the track?
Then there is Prof Tim Flannery (Ph D in Palaeontology!) who was recently appointed to head the new Climate Change Commission. It was this man who claimed in 2007, that water supplies in Sydney and Brisbane were so low, that they needed desal plants – “possibly in as little as 18 months!” The then Premier of Brisbane (Peter Beattie) accordingly said they would not build any dams because there would not be enough rain to fill them!!! Among other way-out claims, Flannery has also said — in 2008 — that Adelaide’s water supply was so low that they may run out of water in 2009. Their dams are nearly full at present, and the Murray River is flowing very well, thank you.
This man should be brought to account, but instead, the Federal Government has given him this promotion with a $180,000 salary.
