After the dismissal of the Hastings Council and the appointment of an administrator, it gave the people of the Hastings area a time to reflect on what had taken place and come to terms with all the personal emotional upheaval that was experienced at the time.
We now face new council elections and I would have thought this would have been a great time to elect men and women who have a passion for the Hastings and be the true servants representing the people who had elected them.
Yet, we find political parties putting their “team” forward to stand for election. One would have thought councillors would stand for the people, not a political party? I would give my vote for a person who stands for the hopes, desires and future of the people than for one who stands on the political platform of a particular party.
If I have to choose councillors of a particular political party, then I would withhold my vote as an act of protest. I have seen enough of what political parties have done to Local Government. I want genuine people to stand on their own merits, who they are, with a desire to serve where their true allegiance lies, in the office they hold and in the people of the Hastings and its future.
