Banks in conflict?

Recently many of us received the Bank ‘Nanny’ brochure telling us how to ensure the security of our plastic card/s.

Yet on TV the same bank/s through Mastercard is/are in conflict with the above brochure.

The TV advertisement is for the soon to be introduced Tap N Go Card. This card is simply tapped on the retailer’s reader by the holder and, as long as the goods are under $100, there is no PIN, no signature check, no name check/ID and the card may not even be the cardholder’s.

In addition to the conflict above, let’s assume the purchase was pre-arranged — for example, phoned in (as suggested by the ad as the goods are on the counter when the client rushes in) — the shopkeeper would have little hope of assisting with identification in any illegal misuse of the card.

So, in effect, it is a card to pass around for the use of anybody, with the card holder denying purchasing those goods at a later date and making application for a refund/credit to their card.

It also may be a card where we get that facility whether we want it or not.

Have I got this right?
