Congratulations to David Gillespie and The Nationals team for committing an extra $2 billion to guarantee the Pacific Highway upgrade. The Labor-Independent bickering over the funding split with the cash strapped State Government has put lives at risk and blown their own 2016 deadline for completion.
The $2 billion will be acquired from the funding for the unwanted Parramatta to Epping rail link, a previous NSW State Government initiative which NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell does not want to proceed with.
Port Macquarie-Hastings region will also benefit from better access for holiday-makers as well as lower freight costs up and down the coast.
The NRMA welcomes the coalition promise to finish the highway (Wendy Machin September 15, 2012)
The total $5 billion commitment is a lot of money and something that will benefit our region for decades to come.
