Bob Vinnicombe’s letter about elections makes some valid points regards brothels and poker machines, but the third paragraph concerning climate change demands challenge. “Human induced climate change is a scam to get money out of people”.
Whoa there Bob, you’ve sipped one too many banana daiquiris there ol’ son! Are you suggesting that we continue to rape and pillage the planet, using existing practices to meet the needs of our burgeoning world population? Sorry mate, I can’t agree with you there.
Agreed, the carbon tax is an impost on every Australian but it is a necessary evil in the battle to modify consumer behaviour. As long as our elected governments can be trusted to channel this revenue into renewable energy initiatives, I’m ok with it. Sure, interpretative science is a growth industry but I reckon if you gathered a thousand of the leading minds on this issue in a room, there would be general consensus that the level of global CO2 emissions must be addressed. I’ve never stood for local council elections but I dip my lid to those that do, but I must say Bob, I think I can see why you aren’t part of the current structure.
