Lesson learned?

Re. Lyn Drew’s recent letter.
Firstly, Lyn Drew’s loyalty to her husband, ex-Mayor Rob Drew, must be acknowledged.
It is true that Ian Ferguson has been a strong and consistent critic of the Glasshouse. However his criticisms of process, excessive cost, and location are valid.
Sadly, our community has been lumbered with a facility that was unaffordable.
Rob Oakeshott is criticised for doing his job, namely, transmitting to Minister Hickey valid concerns of the broader community relating to this project. Council, dominated by the so-called “yes” team, was not interested in listening to the concerns of the majority of its constituents, nor to Minister Hickey’s advice not to sign the Glasshouse building contract.
Indeed, she [Lyn Drew] yearns for “an independent inquiry into all who played a part in this great miscarriage of justice.” Meanwhile most ratepayers are angry over the Glasshouse costs and the consequential deterioration of infrastructure.
Hopefully lessons have been learned from the Glasshouse debacle.
Future councils must focus attention on basic infrastructure responsibilities and operating within their budgets!
