The electricity price is set to rise for the retail consumer in July, another extra cost to living.
But did you know that large companies have negotiated contract prices, as low as 4-7 cents a kW, whereas the retail consumer pays 22 cents?
Electricity is a necessity to everyone. We are trying to reduce our power consumption and save the environment with initiatives like solar power. Then there are the large companies, ie, Govt Hospitals, Manufacturing plants, Councils, Clubs etc, who use mass power consumption but they get a discount for it. How is that fair?
The everyday home trying to minimise power to survive the rising electricity costs is getting jabbed with the dearer electricity. What other industry would you receive a 50+ per cent discount just because you are a bigger user? Imagine if fuel companies did the same — anyone using higher volumes of fuel get cheaper fuel; it doesn’t make sense. How is it fair that electricity companies can do this to the general consumer?
