It is interesting to note that Leslie Williams is very willing to lay claim for achievements that are not her own, for example the fourth and fifth pods at the Base Hospital, but ask for a simple bus shelter at the same hospital, and our State MP is unable to deliver. As Leslie keeps telling us, she is a former nurse so she should appreciate the extreme need for such a shelter. Yet Leslie, along with her State National Party colleagues represented by Stephen Broomhead, are seeking a 20 per cent increase in travel allowances, free use of public transport and a huge resettlement allowance if they lose their seats. This on top of any pension entitlements!! Mr Broomhead states MPs are entitled to the cash because they gave up careers, employment and other opportunities to serve the people of NSW.
State MPs are paid very well for their service to the community, even those where there is precious little evidence of this service. Unlike the Public Sector workers that this State Coalition Government wasted no time in placing restrictions on wage rises that are below the rate of inflation. Not to mention the diminishing of the Police Compensation Package, if they are unable to work, due to being injured whilst performing their duties, not because they got voted out of their job.
