Port Outriggers looking for new paddlers

Port Macquarie outrigger paddlers are looking to grow their ranks as the opening regatta for the new season approaches.
The club will run novice sessions over the next three Saturdays for anyone interested in giving the sport a try.
Club President Wayne Barnard said he was hopeful the club’s record-breaking efforts last season, which included its first national title and a silver medal at the prestigious Gold Coast Cup, would help attract new members to the sport.
“We enjoyed our most successful season last summer, but much of that success has been due to our depth at all levels, so we are always on the lookout for new members and new talent,” he said.
“The club is interested to hear from men, women and juniors who’d like to give the sport a try and, over the next three weeks, we are running novice sessions every Saturday morning for new paddlers.
“No experience or equipment is needed — we’ll provide instruction on the basics, and there’s no cost.
“Each session will begin at 8am at the Westport Boat Ramp just down from the Port Macquarie Marina and anyone interested in having a go is welcome to come down to join us.”
Alternatively, Barnard said people could email the club through its website www.marorokanu.websyte.com.au/ or contact him directly on 0418 296016 for more information.
