Six boats and sixteen fisherpersons ventured seaward on Sunday, January 23 for the Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club’s first outing for the year.
Conditions at sea were a little choppy early but improved as the day went on.
Skippers were greeted with an underlying northerly current and a southerly current on top. This made fishing a little difficult but not impossible.
The Club’s barbecue and weigh-in commenced at noon and as usual was very well supported by members, families and friends.
Fish that greeted the weigh-master included Dolphin fish, snapper, morwong, tragalin, flathead and one nice Sampson fish.
The best boat on the day was ‘Bazza’ skippered by Barry Ingram with 11.940 points and the runner-up boat was ‘Easybeat’ skippered by Geoff Shelton, with 11.100 points.
The Mid-Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by Nathan Clark with 10.780 points, the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was won by Jim Fischer with a fish weighing .70kg and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species was not contested.
The Barry Ingram Painting Junior award was won by Callum Vogel and the Ken Little Fruit and Veg raffle was won by Ron Hopper.
The Club’s marble draw was not won and will jackpot til the next outing.
The Club’s next outing will be on Sunday, February 6.
The weigh-in and barbecue will commence at noon at the marina.
