The 2011 Mid-North Coast Junior Rugby Union (MNC JRU) training and trials are ready to kick off; and MNC JRU President Richard Jagger is calling on all budding stars to line up for the event.
The 2011 rugby union season will start in February, with training and trials to allow coaches and managers to select young players to represent the Mid-North Coast zone at NSW Rugby Union Country Championships later in the year, Mr Jagger said.
“The chance to be part of a representative team gives young players the opportunity to play very talented rugby players from across NSW,” he said.
“Representative rugby union is extremely important to NSW and Australia and it’s part of the pathway for young players to potential progress to play for the NSW Waratahs or even the Wallabies.”
Mr Jagger said Rugby Union is one of best contact sports and relies on close teamwork.
“We are looking for players between the ages of 11 and 16 and would encourage all to give it a go,” he said.
“During the season we see very talented young players at the Friday night school competition in Port Macquarie and I’d really encourage those who play the school comp to come and have a go.”
The trial and training will be held on Sunday, February 6 at Stuart Park, Hibbard Drive, Port Macquarie from 10am-12pm including an information session.
More information will be available on the MNC JRU website http://www.midnorthcoastjuniors.rugbynet.com.au/
MNC JRU zone covers the MNC from Forster to Woolgoolga, with Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour being dominant contributors of talented young players.
Mr Jagger said in 2011 a new committee is in place and has been building a program of events for 2011.
Furthermore, some key local businesses have provided sponsorship for playing jerseys, he said.
“For 2011 the committee is committed to promote and grow the game of rugby union for the MNC by developing young players and enhancing skills of coaches and managers,” he said.
