After two cancelled attempts due to bad weather, the Dawn Pardoe Memorial Day for the Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club was held on Sunday, May 29. Seven boats went to sea with eighteen fisherpersons on board.
Conditions were very good with slight seas and light winds. However the current was running north, which makes the fish a little shy. Despite this, some great fish greeted the weigh master, including kingfish, trag, morwong, snapper and plenty of flathead.
The best boat on the day was ‘Gunna’ skippered by Jim Fischer with 27.700 points and the runner-up was ‘Quicksilver’ skippered by John Robertson with 24.960 points.
The winner of the prestigious Dawn Pardoe Trophy was John Robertson with 14.440 points. Hot on his heels was Michelle Evans with 11.660 points and Tony Jones came a close third with 10.520.
The Mid-Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by John Robertson, the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was won by Harry Smith and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species was won by John Robertson.
The Barry Ingram Painting Junior award was not contested and the Ken Little Fruit and Veg raffle was won by Dave Simpson. The club’s marble draw was won by Gwen Scott.
The Club’s barbecue and weigh-in commenced at 12 noon and was very well supported by members, families and friends.
Dawn Pardoe was a stalwart for the club for many years and the day is held each year to honour her work for the club.
The Club’s next outing will be held on Sunday, June 12. Anyone wishing to join the Club or attend the weigh-ins and barbecue are most welcome. For further information please contact President Geoff Shelton on 0421324773.
