Port City Leagues has grabbed first innings points after ripping through Macquarie on Day 1 of their 1st Grade match at Laurieton.
Macquarie elected to bat first and were in deep trouble when their top order collapsed to be 6 for 12.
They were eventually dismissed for just 66 runs.
City’s pace attack was led by Mitchell Dick who claimed 5/13 and he was supported by Kyle Bray (3/13) and Jason Herdegen (1/13).
In response Leagues struggled initially and were 5 for 52 but they managed to rack up a total of 188 with Daniel Byrnes top scoring with 40, Jamie Hall made 37 and Herdegen smashed 33 off 12 deliveries.
City will be hoping to pick up outright points when the match continues on Saturday. In the lower grades, the 2nd Grade Leagues side lost to Wauchope by 7 wickets ending their chance of making the semis. Rod Brewer top scored with 32 while Cameron Chick picked up 2/20.
The 3rd Grade team scored an impressive 11 run victory over Wauchope. Batting first Port City were immediately on the back foot at 5 for 10 but with 30 runs from Mark Glover along with support from Paul Byrne (21), Rohan Kew (19) and Scott
Glover (18*) they managed to score a total of 113. Wauchope had no answer to Port’s bowlers and were dismissed for 92. Sean McGrath led the way with 3/19 while Peter Kew, Mark Glover and Kurt Crane picked up 2 wickets a piece.
In the 15th Annual Beechwood 7s Tournament played on Sunday the defending champions Port City knocked out Port Magpies in the opening round by 6 runs and then fell to Port Panthers Pirates in the semi-final by 15.
Panthers then went on to defeat Wauchope’s #2 side in the final. For Port City Andrew Glover was named the Batsman of the Tournament by compiling 124 runs from his two innings of 68 and 56 while Nik James was named the Bowler of the Tournament with his figures of 2/16 and 2/19. Daniel Byrnes was also impressive in the field with 4 catches despite a fractured finger.
