SIX local sporting groups have received almost $45,000 in State Government grants.
The funding through the Participation and Facilities Grant Program will be used to improve local sporting and recreational facilities.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for local sporting groups to upgrade their facilities and to encourage people to become more active through exercise which has so many health benefits,” Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said.
“Locally, funding has been awarded for a mix of sporting activities including roller derby, cycling, surf lifesaving and exercising.”
Funding went to:
– $15,147 to Hastings District Respite Care to promote and reconnect participation in gym and exercise classes for people with dementia;
– $9990 to Wauchope-Bonny Hills SLSC to promote participation in surf life saving;
– $9953 to Port Macquarie Cycling Club to assist participation in cycling programs;
– $6200 to Hastings Valley Mountain Bike Riders for women on wheels bicycle project encouraging female participation in cycling; and
– $3450 to Port Macquarie Roller Derby League to increase participation in roller derby on the Mid North Coast.
“As someone who tries to stay active in what is a very busy schedule I know there are many health and well-being benefits of exercising and staying active,” Mrs Williams said.
“I am very pleased the State Government is also committed to providing seniors, people with a disability and groups facing barriers greater opportunities to get involved in exercise which also has so many social benefits.”
