WAUCHOPE is into the Group 3 rugby league grand final after a blistering 46-point win against Old Bar Beach on Sunday.
The Blues, fresh from a week’s rest, put paid to the Pirates in a dominating performance that makes them the short-priced favourites for the grand final.
Wauchope now has another week off before facing the winner of Old Bar Beach and Forster Tuncurry in this Sunday’s preliminary final.
Winger Anthony Coombes and forward Robert Trembath led the scoring for Wauchope on Sunday, crossing for two tries apiece, while Sam Watts, Beau Kettle, Billy Berne, Matt Bird and Beau White were the others to score.
Watts had his kicking boots on, scoring eight conversions.
Meanwhile, Port City is out of the premiership race after succumbing to Forster Tuncurry on Saturday.
The Breakers had no answers for the rampaging Hawks, who scores 11 tried to four.
In reserve grade, the Port Macquarie Sharks get another chance at a grand final berth when they face Wingham Tigers on Sunday at Old Bar Reserve.
The Sharks were no match for Wauchope in their semi-final, but earned a second chance.
The Blues had too much class for the Sharks, winning 24-10.
