Teens tackle tactics

Fishing On the Tweed By DAVID SOLANO

I RUN into Cody Muroe and Josh Geurney quite often, either on yaks or in Josh’s little tinny and as far as I’m aware they don’t use bait, only soft plastics and hardbodied lures. In fact they do and try anything to get fish. Last time I ran into them they were tied up at the Ivory Tavern jetty trying to tempt some trevally out from under the pylons and they have been successful here in the past as they had the photos to prove it.
The best part about all this is there’s not a computer or screen in sight, it was just so cool to see two teenagers out and about doing what I used to do as as a kid in complete freedom and having a ball.
Lure fishing has become so popular that it’s starting to attract kids to this great sport, it’s not quite like it used to be, ie: grab a packet of prawns and sit by the river in the same spot not checking your line enough, sound familiar? Nowadays it’s more like going hunting, we seek the fish out, walk the banks, chase them on yaks/boats, we try new places all the time, always thinking, wondering will it be this cast that I get the big one and it only takes a decent fight and you become an instant lure addict.
This can be a problem on the hip pocket because terminal tackle hooks, jig heads, plastics can become expensive, but, hey that’s all I do so you can imagine Anglers Warehouse love it when I walk through their doors. See you out there, cheers.
