Not even gloomy skies and heavy downpours of rain could detract from the festivities of Tuesday last week, as approximately one hundred and twenty bowlers gathered to help celebrate our President’s Day and our 40th Ruby Birthday. President Ann Butlin welcomed guests including the State President, Patricia Reynolds, Hastings Haven District President, Maureen Bradford, Region two Representative, Carole Graham, and President of the board of our club at Lake Cathie, Warren Henderson, and the Secretary/Manager of the club, Dean Noble. She also welcomed Presidents and teams from other clubs and our own members.
Morning tea was followed by lots of laughter and discussions before the afternoon proceedings began with a delicious lunch served by Luke and his staff. After the cutting of the beautiful cake, and various toasts, merit badges were handed out by Patricia Reynolds to Beryl Barker, Susan Malzard, Anne Wilson, Di Spinks and Ann Butlin.
The lucky leads were Kay Deas and J Fleming (Westport). The lucky seconds were Pat Gibbons and J Hall (Wauchope). The lucky thirds were Robyn Jones and Carole Graham (North Haven). The lucky skips were Dawn Turner and . Allan (Wauchope).
So, even though not one bowl was put down on the greens, it was a day enjoyed by one and all and made possible by the contribution of many hands before and on the big day.
Some further matches in the Major Pairs were played last Friday, with the following results. Lyn Duncombe and Anne Lloyd defeated Shauna Proctor and Marilyn Dewson, Anne Wilson and Yvonne Howard defeated Susan Malzard and Lois Wright, Janice Soutar and Pat Monaghan defeated Dorothy Lynch and Isabel Hicks, Robyn Jones and Mary Simmonds defeated Lorraine Sheargold and Patricia O’ Brien, Ros Hancox and Lynne Watson defeated Judy Blacker and Nola Scott, Pat Flatman and Ann Butlin defeated Holly Marchment and Beryl Barker, and lastly, Nicolle McCracken and Helene White defeated Di Fischer and Pam Begley.
