The Chugby for Charity game played at Bellevue Oval on Friday, July 6 has been deemed a great success. With 480 people in attendance, there was a great atmosphere in the grandstand, showing our community’s support for charity.
Female students from St Albert’s and Robb Colleges at UNE fought hard the entire game, with neither team backing down at any point. The crowd was very vocal, constantly cheering and groaning with the players, showing support for their side. Some of the clashes and tackles could rival the intensity of many male rugby games, with the girls fighting fiercely for the win. The game finished with the scoreboard 14-21, in Robb College’s favour.
The most successful win, however, was that for
charity, with $3754.43 raised. This resulted in $1251.50 being donated equally to The Heart Foundation on behalf of St Albert’s College, Aussie Helpers on behalf of Robb College, and Tour De Cure on behalf of both colleges, with thanks to Sport UNE.
Players and spectators alike had a very fun and enjoyable afternoon and, with ‘Chugby for Charity’ now being an annual event, the same is expected for next year’s game.
