Residents take positive stand at fundraiser

A group of about 50 keen paddlers stood behind a great cause recently.
They joined in a Stand Up Paddle Port Macquarie fundraising event for Disabled Surfing Association of Australia Hastings Branch, which helps those less able get into the waves with the help of local surfers.
Organiser for the fundraiser, Wayne Dean, said the event was held between 9am and 1pm in the Hastings River on April 1, behind the Waters Edge Boutique Hotel.
With a fancy dress theme and a “dogs on boards” competition, the day was inevitably full of fun fundraising for young and old, he said.
First Prize for fancy dress went to the Nemos, and the Turbo Surf Designs’ paddle raffle proved very popular, Wayne said.
“A tasty barbecue was also on site thanks to the Lions Club.”
Although the tally is still going, over $1000 was raised for the worthy cause.
