With the Olympics just days away and James Magnussen a real chance at winning a medal, there is one man who is quietly going about his business lining up for his third consecutive games – Ryley Batt.
Having competed in Athens in 2004 and winning Silver in Beijing in 2008, Paralympian Ryley Batt and his wheelchair rugby team the ‘Steelers’ will hit the courts in London, chasing gold.
National television broadcaster ABC1 is currently featuring a series on Tuesday nights called Race to London. Ryley Batt features heavily in this series alongside other Olympic greats Libby Trickett, Michael Klim and Ahmed Kelly an up and coming paralympic swimming team hopeful.
The television series is halfway through, but past episodes can be found on www.abc.net.au/iview
Ryley Batt shares his inspirational story with school kids across the country and has dabbled in motivational speaking for businesses and sporting teams such as the Wallabies and the Roosters. To date, these talks have been rare but inspiring.
With only weeks to go before Ryley heads off for final preparations in London, he will share insights into what it takes to mentally and physically prepare for a shot at gold, at an upcoming fundraising event on July 23 for mayoral hopeful Adam Roberts.
“Adam continues to amaze me with the commitment and the passion he brings to the local community. I know I would like to see Adam as Mayor when I bring home the Gold from the London Paralympics,” Ryley says in an extract from his public endorsement of Adam Roberts. (sourced: www.adamroberts.com.au)
