The Australian Futsal Association Winter Men’s A Grade Final was played between Saints and Real Sociopaths. The Saints had been front runners in the competition, whilst Real Sociopaths quietly and meth-odically worked their way into the Final. Saints put a score on the board within a minute.
The players from both sides were being tightly marked and there were no free loose balls to be scored from. Matt Goodwin for Saints was always looking dangerous and hard to contain. Real Sociopaths broke back to score from a through ball down the middle, putting pressure on the Saints defence. Half-time score 1-1. Second half Saints came out and scored, then knocked the ball around but were just rushing a little too much, which gave Real Sociopaths some easy turnovers.
While shots were hard to come by, James Oates, with what could be called the Goal of the Season, slammed home from the halfway an equaliaer, 2-2.
Saints applied more pressure and with some very fast footwork put a couple of goals in the net. Real Soc-iopaths found scoring difficult but then worked hard, only to miss some easy shots. The game belonged to the Saints, a great game of Futsal 5 – 2 .
Congratulations to two of the A grade boys who have been chosen to tour China in November in the AFA Youth Squad – Dan Beliech and Michael Bishop; both boys have had great Futsal seasons.
