Young surf lifesavers from Bonny Hills shone at the recent Mid North Coast SLS Branch Championships held at Tacking Point.
Wauchope Bonny Hills club’s Troy Wilkinson won gold in every individual event on the beach and in the water in the Under 14 age group. He also picked up silver medals in the swim teams, all age relay and senior Cameron relay events.
Troy has taken out the club’s Age Champion award just about every year since the under 6s and has achieved consistently outstanding results at club and representative levels. According Youth Development Director Lyn Gallagher, he’s one of those quiet achievers.
“Troy has had a fantastic career as a nipper and has a happy, positive attitude too,” she said. “He just gets on with it and always has a smile.”
Darren Gill, one of the team running the club’s new youth development squad is hoping Troy will join their ranks once he “graduates’ from nippers at the end of the season.
“We started the squad because there was little structured involvement for the 14s to go on to after they leave nippers,” he said.
