May Kelly Cup grand final

The Maccas-Port City Bowling Club 1st Grade team will clash with the winner of the game between Macquarie Hotel and Comboyne in Saturday’s May Kelly Cup 20/20 Grand Final to be played Under Lights at Wayne Richards Park from 6pm.

Leagues Magpies’ Captain Craig Grant will rely on his All-Rounders to get the job done, following last week’s 13 run victory over the Pirates in their final 20/20 preliminary game. Jason Herdegen, Jason Dodd, Chris Cole, Jessie Schmidt and Kyle Bray will all have important roles to play, with both bat and ball. Meanwhile Port City were unable to get on top of Comboyne in their two-day game at Andrews Park, going down by 45 runs.

The Tigers were dismissed for 198 with Chris Cole (4/51), Kyle Bray (3/32) and Ben Lawrie (3/46) taking the wickets. In response, Cole top scored with 44, Jason Dodd was 40 not out and Bray hit 25 but it wasn’t enough and Leagues were dismissed for 153.

The 2nd Grade Designer Living Kitchens team also did it tough in their two-day clash with Bonny Hills. The ’Pies were 118 runs behind after the completion of the 1st Innings, so Bonny Hills went for quick runs in their second dig and smashed 7/164 in under 20 overs, hoping to give themselves enough time to record an outright victory with Anthony Hyde grabbing 4/42. Port City held firm and were 5/66 at stumps.

The 3rd Grade 2MCFM side defeated the Pirates’ Buccaneers by four wickets. Chasing 214 for victory Dylan Lewis with 81 not out led the Magpies to victory along with Greg Hall with 42 runs. Earlier Lewis also claimed 3/48 with the ball, supported by Brett Wasson (2/8) and Darren Hall (2/33).

The 4th Grade Better Homes team maintained their spot on top of the ladder with a five-wicket win over Beechwood 1. After dismissing the opposition for 56 courtesy Rob Mooney (3/10) and doubles to Ian Dickson, Mitch Dickson and Kade Fens, Port City reeled in the total with plenty of overs to spare. The Competition has a Bye this weekend to allow the four 20/20 finals to be played from 9am on Saturday starting with the 4th Grade Decider.
