IF YOU’VE seen some fancy footwork on the streets of Port Macquarie recently, this story might explain it.
Skaters from the Port Macquarie Roller Derby League have been busy painting the town red (and black) with posters advertising their competitive debut, aptly titled The Debutante Brawl.
The “bout” will be held at Port Stadium on 31 August and will feature the region’s very own women, with competitors coming from Laurieton and Camden Haven and up to Kempsey and Crescent Head.
They will go head-to-head with the feisty femmes travelling down from Roller Derby Ipswich.
Following the women’s bout will be a hotly anticipated showdown between the men from Sydney City SMASH and Toowoomba Men’s Roller Derby – the first full-length interleague bout between the representative teams of two men’s derby leagues in Australia.
Port Macquarie Roller Derby League president Karma Collider said she felt privileged to be a part of a league with such a passionate and determined group of members.
“The league has come a long way in just 18 months, growing from 12 members in March 2012 to over 70 current members today,” she said.
The Debutante Brawl promises to be an exciting evening full of thrills and spills.
