Two former Port United players have had shining seasons with the strong Newcastle based Adamstown Rosebud Club. Alex Gillespie was voted the club’s 1st Grade Player of the Year as well as Most Improved, while Matt Baldwin was named the U23’s Player of the Year. Both played First Grade at Port United, as well as with the juniors.
Gillespie had a stellar season playing a central defender role, while Baldwin played a centre midfielder position, alternating between an attacking and defending role. After being successful at early season select-ion trials, they managed to fit in a hectic training schedule on top of their university studies.
Unfortunately, Adamstown fell just short, losing the Grand Final to the Lambton Jaffas who won promotion to the top flight NBN State League. Their season is not yet over, as Adamstown have a game scheduled against the Central Coast Mariners youth league side in a couple of weeks’ time as preparation for the upcoming A-League season.
Two other former Port Mac-quarie players, Jack O’Toole and Rowan Davison also played with Adamstown. They are all looking forward to making promotion to the NBN State League the prime objective next season.
