I must have tempted Fate when I joked last week that we hadn’t been washed away yet! I guess all the clubs are the same, but it is the first time in all my years of playing bowls that the ladies of Westport have been unable to play a game for the whole week.
We gathered with high expectations on Thursday, welcoming back member June Quirk and visitors Sue Smith and Ella Wright, had just enough time to sell raffle tickets and present Maureen Madeley and Carol Owen with their badges for winning the Major Pairs – then the rain came. By the time we left about 10.30 a.m., the greens looked almost like swimming pools – anyone for Water Polo? The raffle went ahead and was won by Jean Prince, Kaye Stingel and our Patron and Life Member, Betty Stewart, who claims it was her first raffle win in her 43 year membership!
Social bowls are played each Thursday at 9.30 a.m. with visitors and players from other clubss most welcome. Names into Selectors by 1.00 p.m. Wednesday. Betty Oliver: 6583 9385, Di Irving: 6582 6262, Bowls Office: 6588 7220.

Twilight bowls will attempt to play again next Tuesday commencing at 5.15 p.m. Please contact Margaret Coombes 6581 3264 or lodge your name on the sheet at the club to join us in a very pleasant game in the cool of the evening. We Hope!
