Cameron goes from strength to strength

Port Macquarie’s Cameron Ayres was surprised when he was presented with the Mid North Coast junior referees award recently.
The award was presented unexpectedly when Cameron attended the recent Mid North Coast Referees Association 2012 Australian Rugby Union refereeing pre-season course in Kempsey.
Mid North Coast Referees Association secretary Sean O’Brien said Cameron was looking to increase his involvement in the Mid North Coast union competition this year.
“We look forward to seeing Cameron improve his skills and hope that other young rugby union players might like to follow his example,” Mr O’Brien said.
Cameron has been actively involved in refereeing the local junior rugby union competition, as well as playing for the u18s Pirates.
Cameron was attending the refereeing course in Kempsey to improve his skills and see if he could get qualified for the zone seniors roster to earn some experience for his intended gap year of rugby travels overseas when he completes his high schooling.
Cameron is currently in year 11 at Port Macquarie High School and is majoring in engineering for the HSC.
The referee’s course in Kempsey was run by the NSW Referees coordinator Ron Mancell and included topics such as managing on field injuries, game management guidelines, reducing your penalty count and managing foul play strategies, to mention a few.
