New England Bowls With Richie Clutterbuck
BOWLS NSW advise that as from 16 August 2013 smoking will not be allowed on the greens in the following events.
NSW State Senior championship finals, Rookies’ state finals, Champion of Champion state finals, Club Challenge state finals, Inter zone state final rounds and final, Senior state inter zone finals and all Cashback state pennant finals.
The ban will apply to players, managers and coaches. This ban will be welcomed by most players and spectators.
Former Armidale City player Jay Porter has been re-elected to the Bowls NSW board. This will be his second year and he told me he is enjoying the experience.
The board is currently in negotiations regarding proposed changes to zone boundaries and if changes are made then they may not come into effect until 2015.
Another item of interest is that Bob Tonnet will be conducted various examinations for measurers etc. If you wish to attend then please contact Bob at the City club.
“Come and try” lawn bowls
ON 19 October the Armidale Branch of Special Olympics in conjunction with the City club will be holding a “come and try” lawn bowls morning.
Invitations and details have been released by the committee of the Special Olympics and conditions have been set out by that committee regarding the day. The City club will provide bowls etc and they will also supply a sausage sizzle following play.
Mentors from the club will also be available to assist on the day. All further information must be obtained from Tony Bock from Special Olympics.
Champion pairs played at Guyra
UNFORTUNATELY, I do not have the card for the final of the champion of champion pairs played at Guyra on Saturday but from all reports I have received it was a wonderful game with the scores locked together most of the match.
At the end of the 21 ends Steve and Todd Fuller managed a 23-22 win over Chris Kliendienst and Dan Kennedy and they are now off to Lighting Ridge for the zone finals.
In the zone Rookies Ian Inman and Aaron Kelly finished a close second only three shots behind the winners.
The Armidale City Ladies’ club has taken a big step towards promoting their club by voting to allowing members to play their competition matches on weekends.
