Four grades, record victories on pitch

The Port City Leagues Magpies Cricket Club created history last Saturday, with all four Grades recording victories on the same day for the first time.
The McDonalds-Port City Bowling Club 1st Grade side wrapped up their two-day game at Oxley Oval, with first innings points against Pirates.

The Magpies sent the opposition back in, to attempt to gain an outright victory. However, Pirates held firm and finished at 1/107 in their second innings to complete the game.
The 2nd Grade Designer Living Kitchens League ’Pies defeated Pirates by 5 wickets to reverse the result of their 1st Round clash.
Pirates batted first and finished at 9/148 with Tony Glavurdic taking 3/24, Peter Kew 2/37, Nik James 2/38 and James Ketteringham with 1/29 and a run out.

Wayne Popplewell top scored with 42 and also claimed 3 for 17 with the ball. He was supported with the bat by Brett Wasson and Greg Hall, both with 31 runs, while Dylan Lewis (3/25), Darren Hall (2/13) and Ryan Doherty (2/14) did their job to dismiss the Pirates, assisted by Wasson’s 3 catches in the field. The 4th Grade Better Homes team was too strong for Beechwood, recording a 121-run win, with Nathan Kew wielding the willow for 56 and Mick Kennedy supporting with 30 runs.
The wickets were shared by Ian Dickson 2/2, Sean Mooney 2/23 and Adam Power 2/34, along with Rob Mooney and Sam Frecklington picking up one each.
The victories in all four grades places the Port City Leagues Magpies into 2nd spot on the Club Championship table, just behind Wauchope as the competition moves into 20/20 mode during December.
