Murder arrests

TWO men arrested in relation to the alleged murder of a Sanctuary Lakes resident faced court in Thailand recently.
Royal Thai police arrested the men separately last September and October after requests were made by Australian forces.
The Thai citizens were wanted in relation to the murder of former Wyndham resident Luke Mitchell in Brunswick during 2009.
Mr Mitchell became known as a “good Samaritan” after his death outside a 7-11 store in Sydney Rd.
Witnesses said the 29-year-old was bashed and stabbed five times after he attempted to break up a fight outside a nearby nightclub.
Two of the men allegedly involved in the attack, aged 27 and 35, faced court in Thailand on 17 January.
“The arrest of the two men in Thailand is the result of close and continued co-operation between Australian and Thai authorities,” a Victoria Police statement said.
“It is now a matter for Thai authorities to determine whether these men should be extradited to Australia.”
A third man wanted in relation to Mr Mitchell’s death is still at large, believed to be overseas.
