VOTERS will go to the polls this weekend to elect a new council representative for the Stony Creek Ward.
Enrolled voters in Braybrook, Tottenham and West Footscray will decide who will fill the position made vacant by Joseph Cutri in August.
Residents will choose from 10 candidates who have registered their interest to fill the position on Maribyrnong City Council.
About 6000 residents are expected to cast their votes at Dinjerra Primary School or the Braybrook Community Centre on Saturday between 8am and 6pm.
Voting material will be available in a number of languages, and electoral commissioner Steve Tully urged voters to fill out their ballot papers correctly.
“Voters must number every box, from one through to 10, on the ballot paper in order for their vote to count,” he said.
Voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens under 70, including home owners and tenants, who were listed on the electoral roll for the Stony Creek ward on Friday 14 September.
Those who fail to vote may be fined.
Anyone unable to vote in person on Saturday can cast an early vote this week between 9am and 5pm at the Maribyrnong Town Hall, corner Napier and Hyde streets, Footscray.
