CAROLINE Springs nature lovers: It’s time to take care of the grasslands.
Giorgio De Nola, from Caroline Springs, is calling on members from the community to join him in forming a grasslands group to be called Plain Grasslands that will preserve the endangered vegetation found throughout the 14 hectares of land, discovered more than 150 years ago.
Patches consisting of kangaroo grass, tussock grass, slender speedwell and Melicytus dentatus, including spiny rice flower and flax lily, are all found in the northern end of Caroline Springs, says Mr De Nola, who is also the president of the Australian Plant Society Keilor Plain group.
Mr De Nola is aiming for at least 10 people to join him.
He said the group would work with Delfin and Melton Shire Council to assist in the management of the reserve and the Kororoit Creek.
Mr De Nola is planning to hold a tour of the grasslands on 14 April at 10am, meeting at the Caroline Springs Sales and Information Centre.
Residents interested in joining the group should contact Mr De Nola on 0404 085 517.
