PET owners are urged to take advantage of Maribyrnong City Council’s and the Rotary Club of Yarraville’s discounted microchipping day on 17 March, at Chifley Drive Reserve in Maribyrnong.
The offer comes in time to meet the State Government’s new legislation, which requires all dogs and cats to be microchipped if they are being registered for the first time with the council from 1 May 2007.
However, the new legislation will not apply to pet owners who have already registered their animal at council.
Vets will implant a rice-size microchip in the animal as part of the procedure, which is said to be quick and painless.
Pets will be microchipped for $25, less than half the normal cost.
No bookings are required but dogs must be on a leash and cats secured in a cage or suitable restraint.
Owners of microchipped pets can claim the reduced registration fee for dogs at $33 and $24 for cats. Standard registrations cost $99 for unsterilised pets.
All dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with the council by 10 April.
For more information contact Rosa Gravina on 9688 0384 or the Rotary Club of Yarraville on 0408 125 658.
The microchipping day will be available from 10am to 2pm.
