BRIMBANK Little Athletics club had a solid weekend at the state track and field championships held in Bendigo recently, winning a total of 11 medals, including two gold, four silver and five bronze.
Paul Parker was impressive in the under 12 boys long jump winning gold with a jump of 4.95m; he also won two more medals – a bronze in the triple jump with a jump of 10.98 m, and a bronze in the 70m run.
Taylor Mesiti put in a good effort winning a gold in the under 10 girls 400m and a bronze in the long jump.
Sioni Tui broke the state record in the under 9 boys 100m to come second but the first place getter also broke the record, while the same thing happened to Nathan Doherty in the under 13 300m.
Doherty breaking the record to come in third.
Brimbank LAC secretary James Doherty was pleased with the performance.
“It was probably our best meet ever since the clubs (Deer Park, St Albans and Sunshine) merged in 2000,” he said.
“I think it was our best medal tally, our previous total was six. It was the first time we have won gold ever.
“Out of the 21 people we took, 19 had top 10 finished in their events.
“Overall it was just a fantastic result for such a small centre, it relates to the growth and enthusiasm we are getting.
“A lot of credit can be given to Mark Chamley who has just come on board as coach and put in a new coaching program.”
