SOIL and groundwater contamination was discovered at RAAF Williams Point Cook Base earlier this year.
An environmental audit revealed the contamination was the result of historical fire fighting training using waste chemicals, said EPA Victoria senior manager Stuart McConnell.
A clean-up program is underway and public access to the site has been restricted, he said.
He said the EPA did not expect any significant contamination to Port Phillip Bay.
