Council chases library money to help migrants

BRIMBANK City Council will ask the Library Board of Victoria for $33,000 to help newly arrived members of the Brimbank community from Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia get acquainted with the council’s library services.
The council’s Reaching Out Connecting Communities project will help these new arrivals access library services, with the money destined to go to new library introduction kits that include translated information about library services, literary resources, children’s services and computers classes.
Council last week agreed to submit the funding proposal to the library board and will hear whether it has been successful at a later date.
