THERE was much wining, dining and merriment at the World’s Longest Lunch held in the grounds of the Werribee Open Range Zoo last Friday.
The event was booked out with 180 people from Wyndham, other parts of Victoria and interstate.
Coming under the umbrella of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, about 30 of the lunches were held throughout Victoria.
But, as Wyndham City Council director of economic development and planning Greg Aplin pointed out, only two were held in the western suburbs.
“It’s a fun and feast day,” he said.
“There was a fabulous menu for the people sitting at long tables around the lake at the zoo.
“We like to show off our tourist attractions to visitors and there were also displays of the quality wines and cheeses of the district.”
The music students of Wyndham’s Westbourne Grammar School performed throughout the afternoon.
The lunch-goers compete, in a light-hearted way, to have the longest table of all the events statewide.
Patrons paid $90 for a sumptuous three-course menu, plus a starter and cheese to finish, which included an entree of kingfish carpaccio, main course of French lamb rack with a lemon olive tapenade and dessert of fresh mango with a white chocolate sabayon.
