THE announcement of the Kings Rd duplication has residents questioning when other infrastructure problems in Brimbank will be addressed.
Delahey Action Group member David Anderson, who was in Sydenham during the State Government’s announcement last week, said the announcement was “too little, too late”.
“You’ve got to accept what you can get,” Mr Anderson said.
“We hope that we’re going to get some positive outlines and not just have the promises that we have had in the recent past.”
He said the government had made numerous promises to improve the infrastructure problems in the municipality, with results yet to be seen.
“We’ve had promises with regards to the extra railway crossing in St Albans, given no time frame or plans,” he said.
“We’ve had promises in regards to the Calder interchange and we haven’t seen anything happen to that.
“The State Government is low on performance.”
Transport Minister Peter Batchelor said the level crossing in St Albans had already been addressed and the government would be undertaking the project in 2006.
“The first stage is to separate the level crossing at Taylors Road.
“Once we’ve completed that we will go on to the second and third stages,” Mr Batchelor said.
Until the work at the level crossing starts, residents should obey the road safety laws and warning signals, Mr Batchelor said.
Keilor MP George Seitz said the duplication of Kings Rd would put pressure on the Federal Government to bring forward the construction for the Calder Freeway.
“Once you have this duplication they have absolutely no excuse not to fund the Calder interchange,” Mr Seitz said.
Brimbank mayor Natalie Suleyman said the council would continue to lobby for the extension of Kings Rd to the Calder Freeway.
