CHILDREN at the Kingsville ABC Learning Centre were seeing red last week to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Children donned red hats and outfits to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Red Nose Day last Friday.
Red Hat Day is part of SIDS and Kids annual Red Nose Day fundraising activities.
A gold coin donation was made by the children who created red hats and wore red clothing for the event.
A flyer on safe sleeping for babies was available for parents as part of Red Nose Day’s public awareness campaign on SIDS.
ABC Learning Centre CEO Le Neve Groves said ABC Learning was a major national sponsor of Red Nose Day.
“With 259,000 births in Australia annually, the safe sleeping message is a critical one which ABC Learning is proud to promote,” Dr Groves said.
SIDS accounts for deaths of about 87 babies in Australia each year and is the major cause of death in children between the ages of one month and one year.
Proceeds from Red Nose Day will assist SIDS and Kids fund research, crisis and bereavement support programs and the SIDS and Kids Safe Sleeping Program, which offers practical advice to parents and health professionals about how best to reduce the risks of SIDS and sleep accidents.
