AN AEROSOL can has been blamed for an explosion that last week gutted a room in a Campbellfield home.
Members of the Oguzkaya family were awakened shortly after 5am last Wednesday to hear what sounded like an “earthquake”.
It is believed a small fire in the unoccupied front room of the Bright Street home, caused the can of deodorant to explode.
The powerful impact of the blast separated the wall from the floor, blew tiles off the roof and caused extensive damage to the room.
“The front window blew out, the roof came off practically,” Cihad Oguzkaya said.
“I’ve never felt anything like it in my life – I was in the back room, which is like four rooms away, and I fell off the bed from the shake, it was like an earthquake.”
Broadmeadows detectives said last week that suspicious circumstances had been ruled out, but said the family was lucky to escape unscathed.
“It’s almost a miracle how nobody was injured. It’s unbelievable how much damage a can can cause when near an open flame,” Detective Senior Constable Mark Drane said.
