THE $54 million Taylors Rd upgrade has achieved a major milestone with the new rail bridge inched into perfect position on the Melbourne-Bendigo railway line at St Albans.
The entire bridge, including sleepers, rail track and ballast, was built on the eastern side of the rail line.
Once completed, it was moved into place using hydraulic jacks and then connected to the rail line, all in a matter of hours.
Roads Minister Tim Pallas said the new bridge was an important part of the project to replace a notorious five-leg roundabout and railway crossing at the intersection of East Esplanade and Sydenham Rd.
