Seagulls snap losing streak

WILLIAMSTOWN has snapped to two-game losing streak to smash the Coburg Tigers in style in their Victorian Football League (VFL) match on Sunday.
The Seagulls more than doubled their opponent’s score at the Coburg City Oval, with Patrick Rose kicking four goals in the 62-point rout.
Williamstown came out the stronger of the two teams, kicking 2.2 in the first quarter with Coburg failing to kick a major.
The second term was more of the same with Collingwood-listed player Tristen Walker dominant as the Seagulls piles on five goals to one to lead by 37 points at the main change.
Coburg went about trying to rescue the game in the third quarter with Dean Limbach and Luke McGuane stepping up. The Tigers restricted Williamstown to three goals and kicked six themselves to go into the final change within 22 points of the leaders.
But the Seagulls, coming off losses to Werribee and Box Hill, dug deep and stormed home, kicking 8.5 to 2.1 in the last quarter.
The victory kept Williamstown in fifth position after 13 rounds on the VFL ladder, only behind fourth-placed Coburg on percentage. Rose was one of the best for the Seagulls, along with Walker and Adam Iacobucci, who each kicked three goals.
Former Carlton midfielder Brett Johnson was again among the best players on the ground, while Steven Greene also contributed.
Werribee Tigers had the bye on the weekend.
