ALLEGATIONS of a breach of exam security dampened anniversary celebrations at Werribee’s oldest school last week.
Werribee Primary School – this week celebrating its 150th anniversary – suspended a teacher last week over claims the school had violated the security of a Year 3 Achievement Improvement Monitor (AIM) test.
The AIM is used to indicate the literacy and numeracy skills of students in Years 3, 5 and 7 across the state.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, which administers the test, sent an investigator to the Deutgam St school last week.
Principal Lyn Tout said parents were informed of the situation by newsletter late last week.
“They’ve been sensational,” she said.
Ms Tout said the accused teacher was performing nonteaching duties at the school while the case was investigated.
The breach allegedly occurred the day before the English test, with claims that students were told in advance of some words in the spelling part of the exam.
Ms Tout said seven students resat the exam last week.
She said she regretted the incident was overshadowing the school’s longplanned anniversary celebrations.
